Sunday singles matches at The Ryder Cup are the peak. For spectators — in person and around the globe — and players, alike, the head-to-head, mano y mano matchups are pure theater built on pure adrenaline.
Not a Ryder Cup goes by without many memorable moments from the day of singles.
Adding even more flair to the magic this Sunday at the Ryder Cup is the third match of the day: Rickie Fowler vs. Rory McIlroy.

Every golfer on either side of the Atlantic was crossing their fingers for this one. For golf fans, it means so much. For the U.S., even more.
Fresh off a ridiculous 15-year run of dominance from Tiger Woods, it appears we have his successor in McIlroy. The season he just had would back that up. But the issue with the Tiger Era, if we can call it that, is that he never had a true rival. Phil Mickelson battled him often and will forever be one of the greats, but the stars just never aligned for the two of them.
With McIlroy and Fowler, we have that chance. They’re the same age. They’re two of the world’s top players and undoubtedly a big part of the future for both teams when talking Ryder Cup. The two went back and forth down the stretch at the PGA Championship last month. And, outside of McIlroy, Fowler is perhaps the world’s most noticeable golfer — flat brim, orange slacks and all.
On Sunday, Fowler has a big chance to turn it all around — for himself and the U.S. Following two other young guns in Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed, Fowler heads out against McIlroy as America’s best hope against the world’s No. 1 player. On the line is a chance to seize some major momentum for both the U.S. at the Ryder Cup and this budding rivalry as it continues to grow.
