Avid sports fans remember baseball legend Reggie Jackson as “Mr. October.” It’s a nickname he earned throughout his Hall of Fame career for his heroics during the 10th month of the year, which is, of course, when the World Series takes place.

No night was more indicative of Jackson’s clutch ability than Oct. 18, 1977: Game 6 of the ’77 World Series. The New York Yankees outfielder slugged three home runs on three consecutive pitches, each from a different pitcher. That led to an 8-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers, and clinched the 21st World Series title for the Yankees.
Among the 56,407 fans that evening was a 27-year-old Bill Murray, who said he had “terrible, terrible” seats. But he witnessed one of the greatest athletic feats of all-time, and briefly recounted that story to the audience at his annual Caddyshack Charity Golf Tournament, where he shared the stage with Mr. October himself.
