The weekend tee sheet at the Masters has almost never been this long.
A total of 61 players made the 36-hole cut at the 77th Masters on Friday evening, including an additional seven players when leader Jason Day missed a birdie opportunity at the final hole. Day finished at 6 under par, ahead of Fred Couples and Marc Leishman by a shot.
Chinese sensation Tianlang Guan is among those lucky seven, despite being assessed a one-stroke penalty for slow play earlier in his round. Defending champion Bubba Watson also held on thanks to the Day miss.
As it turns out, the expansion of the cut line to the top 50 and ties did not matter as all players who made the cut were within the traditional 10-Shot Rule.
Among those who failed to make cut are Matteo Manassero, whose record as the youngest player to make the Masters cut lasted just three years, as well as major champions Graeme McDowell and Webb Simpson. Ian Poulter and Nicolas Colsaerts will have the weekend off as well.
The record for the most players to make a Masters cut is still 64 in 1966. A total of 63 players made the cut last year.
