We’ve already covered the sports bars and restaurants across the city of Philadelphia. Now it’s time to dial it in and write about the city’s true nightlife hub.
Xfinity Live! is where everything happens when it comes to bars, restaurants and entertainment in the city. Located in the South Philadelphia Sports Complex, which houses the three venues for Philly’s four major professional sports teams, Xfinity Live! has a beer garden, restaurants, sports bars, an outdoor space that can hold concerts, and the NBC Sports Arena, a state-of-the-art, sports fan’s paradise.
Construction began in the summer of 2011 and less than a year later, the first phase of the project was complete. In the future, developers plan to add hotels and retail shops to the site.
As it stands now, Xfinity Live! is a must-stop if you’re in the city. That’s especially true if you’re going to a game, since the three venues — Wells Fargo Center, Lincoln Financial Field and Citizens Bank Park — are all within walking distance.
The restaurant/bar portion of Xfinity Live! consists of six eateries, which all contrast with one another.
Spectrum Grill serves up typical American fare with a contemporary twist, while Broad Street Bullies Pub is just what you think it is — a classic, neighborhood-style pub that serves burgers, sandwiches and other pub food. And don’t forget a large variety of beers, 48 of which are on tap.
For you country folks out there, PBR Bar & Grill is your place. PBR, which stands for Professional Bull Riders, has locations in Las Vegas, Houston and other U.S. cities. Tex-Mex cuisine is on the menu and at night, southern rock gives it more of a party atmosphere. Plus, there’s a mechanical bull. You can never go wrong with that.
Go to XBAR and be treated like a VIP. With custom lounge seating, personal hostesses and private bars, XBAR makes its customers feel like celebrities. And of course there are plenty of TVs to watch whatever game is on. Groups can rent either of the two private rooms on the second floor.
NBC Sports Arena is like an ESPN Zone. Only better. A 32-foot television is the centerpiece to the main area, but there are plenty of other TVs scattered about. The seats are arranged so that your back is hardly ever to the giant TV. We like that.
Victory Beer Hall is a throwback to the old days. With seating that looks like picnic tables on steroids, patrons can enjoy everything from Bavarian pretzels to bratwurst, and chili to jumbo lump crab cakes. And of course there’s the beer: a large selection of local and regional brews are available.
So you see, Xfinity Live! really is a one-stop kind of place. If you’re in town for the U.S. Open, stay an extra day and check it out.
