Philly is known as the “City of Brotherly Love”, making it a fitting location for this year’s 2013 U.S. Open.  For starters, champion golfers have a long standing love for the Merion Golf Club, which has played host to more USGA Championships than any other course in the country.  According to the club’s official website, the Merion Club continues to “not only challenge the world’s best, but identify them as well.”  Jack Nicklaus once said of the Merion Club, “Acre for acre, (Merion) may be the best test of golf in the world.”

Golf is a gentleman’s game after all, so I hope all of the players will adhere to the very definition of “brotherly love” while being tested, so to speak. while also “loving thy neighbor as thy self” during the tournament.  Just a gentle reminder.  No one needs to take any more losses in future endorsement deals or public perception.  Just saying.  Right Sergio?  Nothing but love in the city where love is all around.

Speaking of amore, Love Park in Philadelphia is home to the famous “Love” sculpture designed by Robert Indiana.  The image was originally designed as a Christmas card for the Museum of Modern Art in 1964.  The “Love” sculpture has been a permanent fixture in the plaza since 1978.  But wait… There’s more love! Located behind the Love sculpture is you guesses it… the Love fountain.  The fountain is dyed to display different colors throughout the year in order to commemorate and celebrate special events.

Another thing to love about Philly… the cheesesteaks of course!  Geno’s vs. Pat’s is the famous ongoing battle for cheesesteak supremacy.  I have enjoyed them both and the verdict is still out on that one.  I would advise to get one from each and decide for yourself.  Luckily they are both located right across the street from each other making this challenge all the more enticing.
