For people like me, Super Bowl Sunday is a tradition like none other.
Every year, our group of friends get the festivities started around noon, and by the time the game actually starts, everyone is more than enjoying themselves. However, we all know that the Super Bowl is an experience that thousands upon thousands of people make the trip for year in and year out. People who don’t even have tickets to the game will head to Super Bowl city just to experience the atmosphere. Not that I have a first-hand account of the environment but, one can only imagine what goes down during football’s final week.
In the spirit of Super Bowl week being in legendary Louisiana bayou, here are some of the best places to hit up in the Big Easy.

In a city with a partying reputation like New Orleans, being named Best Sports Bar is definitely something to pump your chest about. Nestled in the Riverbend neighborhood of Upton New Orleans, Cooter Brown’s boasts over 400 bottled beers and over 60 more on tap. Add 17 big screen TVs and two gigantic eight-foot drop-down screens to the mix, and Cooter’s is every fan’s dream bar. If you’re in N’Awlins for the festivities but you weren’t lucky enough to score some tickets, Cooter Brown’s is the next best thing. Cheers!

The fact that rap sensation Ludacris is performing live on Super Bowl Friday is all you need to know about this place. Known as the best live music spot in the city for over 20 years, Tipitina’s is the perfect mixture of locals and tourists. The common ground that everyone stands on at Tina’s is the music. Perhaps the most influential aspect of the New Orleans culture is its music and nobody in the city throws a better party then Tipitina’s.
For the Kids: Best College Bar: The Boot – 1039 Broadway Street
The Tulane and Loyola students are already familiar with The Boot’s 50 Cent Tuesdays and five hour Friday Happy Hour. However, for all the tourists out there that are heading down with a few of their college buddies, The Boot has long been known as the best college spot in town. Cheap booze. Good music. The Boot has everything a broke college kid could ask for.
Get Familiar with the Locals: Best Neighborhood Dive Bar: Pal’s Lounge – 949 North Rendon Street
If you’re looking to be blown away by service, decour, or products, then Pal’s is not the place for you. But year after year the locals of New Orleans continue to vote that there is no better dive bar in the entire city. Other than mingling with locals and enjoying your favorite go-to cocktail, Pal’s doesn’t have much to offer. But, if you’re looking to get a grasp on what it’s like to live in the Big Easy, then stop in at Pal’s and get familiar with some locals.
