If there was ever a time to want to switch lives with the guys of the PGA Tour, when they make their way to Riviera is definitely a title contender.
With a deep rooted history, not only in terms of the pristine course, but also for the amount of celebrity members it boasts, Riviera Country Club is certainly a special stop for the players each year. Set in the suburbs of Los Angeles, the stars are usually easy to spot during the Northern Trust Open, but we’re all more concerned with where everyone is headed after the golf.
If you find yourself in Los Angeles County, make sure you check out some of the area’s best bars and who knows, maybe you’ll end up having a few beers with your favorite movie star.
Best “Neighborhood” Joint: Bar One – 12518 Burbank Boulevard, North Hollywood, Calif.
Finding a true “neighborhood” bar is not an easy task in a place like Hollywood. The streets are filled with uppity lounges serving overpriced food and booze to people that are far too willing to pay for it. If you’re looking to relax, have a couple beers, listen to some music, and watch some sports, then Bar One is the spot. With a beer selection that only includes specialty crafts and microbrews, you also have a chance to try some of the best of the west coast beer belt. Cheers!
Best Dive Bar: Mom’s Bar – 12238 Santa Monica Boulevard, Los Angeles, Calif.
If you’re anything like me, there’s nothing better than a dumpy bar with cheap bar, good music, and better people. In my opinion, there’s no need to go somewhere that’s all civilized and uptight. Mom’s is the best kind of dive bar because they take pride in being a dive bar. Some places turn into dive bars and take on a negative connotation. But not Mom’s. If you’re in the Santa Monica area, stop by Mom’s for some cheap beers and live music in the California sunshine.
Best Pool Party: Poolside Lounge at Shangri-La Hotel – 1301 Ocean Avenue Santa Monica, Calif.
Ocean Avenue is pretty well known for the beach lifestyle. I can recall numerous references in music, movies, and television of all the star-laden spots that line the street. The Shangri-La is one of the more expensive hotels in the area, and rightfully so. The poolside lounge offers impeccable service and top of the line amenities to go along with the already beautiful environment. If you’re smart, book a room at the Shangri-La and enjoy a couple Mai Tais with your feet in the water. What more could you ask for after a long day at Riviera?
Best Happy Hour: Bar Food – 12217 Wilshire Blvd
With a daily happy hour running from 5-8 p.m., Bar Food offers $4 craft beers and half priced food to go along with what many Yelp! customers call the best trivia night in town. The locals rave about the “bar food” as well as the atmosphere so, if happy hour is your thing, then Bar Food is your spot.
