Believe it or not, Philadelphia restaurants offer other items besides cheesesteaks.
Although we’d certainly recommend getting one when you’re in the city.
Still, there are plenty of other options if you’re looking for something else. And by plenty, we mean hundreds.
There’s Mama Palma’s, a pizza joint that serves some of the best pies in the city thanks, in part, to its oak-fired brick oven. If juicy burgers are your thing, head to Good Dog. The restaurant offers a burger stuffed with Roquefort cheese and topped with caramelized onions.
Looking for something more on the high-end side? Try Vetri, an upscale Italian restaurant that world-renowned chef Mario Batali once called “Probably the best Italian restaurant on the East Coast.” Seriously, he did. It’s on Vetri’s website.
Our point is that Philly’s restaurant scene has something for everyone.
Here are three choices, aside from the ones mentioned above, that you should check out.
Bistrot La Minette
As the name implies, Bistrot La Minette is a French restaurant. A really good French restaurant. Inspiration for the dishes comes from all parts of France.
There’s the Crème Printaniere d’Asperges, a green asparagus soup with mushrooms and black truffle Chantilly. Then for an entrée try the Lapin Rôti à la Moutarde, a mustard-braised rabbit with house-made taglietelle and rabbit jus. Dessert is on a whole different level; we’d recommend the Tarte Tatin, an upside down apple tart with caramel ice cream.

Barbuzzo
Mediterranean fare is on the menu at Barbuzzo, run by Chef-owner Marcie Turney and his business partner Valerie Safran. Reservations are recommended, but you can always snag a seat at the “Chef’s Counter,” which is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
As for the food, everything from olives stuffed with orange zest, almonds and fried rosemary to pan seared gnocchi (royal trumpet mushrooms, smoked corn, guanciale, baby tomatoes, truffle butter) are on the menu. Feeling a bit more on the wild side? Try the grilled Mediterranean octopus salad.

Morimoto
Like Japanese food? We do too. Give Morimoto a try and you’ll thank us later. Run by Chef Morimoto, anything goes at this restaurant. From the traditional Miso soup to toro tartare (caviar and fresh wasabi), there is a starter for everyone.
For main courses, diners can choose from an eight-spice lobster to a dry-aged New York Strip steak. There’s also a raw bar, which offers oysters and crabs, and a sushi bar with a huge menu. Finish your meal with a Miso honeycake for dessert and you’ll leave happy and full.
