Web.com Tour Pro Gets Unbelievably Bad Break

Golf is a cruel game.

Anyone who has teed it up and tried to hit that little white ball staring back at you knows that Arnold Palmer was right when he said that “golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated.” Web.com Tour pro Jimmy Gunn has played enough rounds in his 36 years of life to know that quote rings true. What Gunn may have never experienced, however, it what happened to him yesterday at the United Leasing & Finance Championship.

What Gunn may have never experienced, however, it what happened to him yesterday at the United Leasing & Finance Championship. Playing the 14th hole at Victoria National, Gunn had a bogey-free 5-under par round going with a short iron in his hands looking to get deeper into red numbers. What happened next you have to see to believe.

Gunn’s approach bounced once and practically stuck to the flagstick falling down the pin and into the cup only to hit the bottom and bounce out. Unfortunately for Gunn, Decision 16-5/.5 states that, “the words ‘at rest’ are in the Definition of ‘Holed’ to make it clear that if a ball falls below the lip and thereafter bounces out, it is not holed.”

To his credit, Gunn had some fun with the Web.com Tour social media guys after the round.

Gunn tapped in the putt for birdie to get to 6-under par for the day, but he would go on to bogey the last four holes of the day to finish with a 2-under par 70, leaving him in a tie for sixth, two shots back.
