Was This The Best And Worst One Putt Ever?

In golf, there isn’t a PGA Tour version of a “Welcome to the NFL” moment. Golf is a game of a lifetime, and if you play long enough, you experience just about everything the guys on television do — except the playing for millions of dollars part. If there was a “Welcome to the PGA Tour” moment, however, Cody Gribble would have had his on Saturday.

The University of Texas product is playing in his first PGA Tour event as a card-carrying member this week in Napa, California and he had one of those classic, humbling moments golf provides the rest of us with at least once around. After a solid approach on the par-3 15th hole, Gribble blasted his second shot — a 16-foot “chip” from just off the back of the green — more than 42 feet away from the pin.

No problem, though; there’s a reason Gribble was once a mentor to Jordan Spieth. The 26-year-old rolled in the bomb for a ho-hum par and what will go down in the stats report as maybe one of the best and worst one putts of all time.

Gribble finished Saturday at 10-under par, five shots behind overnight leader Johnson Wagner. Poor weather forced the third round to be suspended with 16 players still yet to complete their rounds. Wagner enters Sunday with a one-shot lead over Patton Kizzire and Scott Piercy.

Here are the day’s complete highlights, thanks to the PGA Tour.

This is how the leaderboard finished Saturday night. The complete leaderboard can be found here
