Valspar Championship To Move To Late March

The Valspar Championship had record crowds this year at Innisbrook in Palm Harbor, Florida, but things are changing for 2019.

The tournament said on Wednesday that the dates would be moved to March 18-24, two weeks later than this year.  Valspar had Tiger Woods in action and in contention before Paul Casey won the event.

The move could be a tough sell to the other players on the PGA Tour, writes the Tampa Bay Tribunes Rodney Page. The new date will be between the World Golf Classic Match Play championships and the Players Championship, which will be moved from May to March starting next season. The news schedule coincides with the PGA TOur wanting to shorten the season and end before college and pro football take center stage in the sports world in the fall.

The fact that the tour date will remain in March is a bonus for Valspar tournament director Tracy West.

“We’re thrilled with our dates,” West told the Times “That’s all I can say about (the dates) right now. We’re happy to still be in March.”
