Tiger Woods Commits To His Foundation’s Event

Tiger Woods, hot on the heels of two top-five finishes on the PGA Tour, committed to The National Golf Tournament on Monday, an event that benefits his TGR Foundation.

Woods hasn’t played in the event since 2015, missing most of the last two years with injuries. With his play at the Valspar Championship and the Arnold Palmer Invitational recently, Woods has become a hot commodity once again and is a favorite to win the Masters, which begins next week. Woods is a two-time champion of The National, which has been held at various courses in the Washington, D.C. area.

“I am really looking forward to being back in the D.C. area this summer playing in The National,” Woods said. “As a two-time champion of this event benefiting my foundation, The National has always been a special event for me.”

The event will be held for the second time at the TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm from June 28th-to-July 1. Last year’s winner was Kyle Stanley, who defeated Charl Schwartzel in a playoff.

The event originated in 2007 to benefit the TGR Foundation. It has moved around in the DC area including a stint at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda. Woods won in 2009 and 2012, but has been nothing more than a spectator the last two years due to injury.
