In a week that saw a fair share of Tiger Woods news, one piece of information that didn’t make its way into the mainstream was enough to let fans know that he would be keeping his word about scaling back his schedule in 2019.
Having until 5 p.m. on Friday to commit to next week’s Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina at Quail Hollow Golf Club, Woods and his team made a statement with their collective silence by foregoing what would have likely been the only event Woods would have played between his Masters victory and the PGA Championship next month at Bethpage Black.
Speaking to “The Clubhouse with Kyle Bailey,” a radio show in Charlotte, Wells Fargo tournament director Gary Sobba confirmed that Woods would not be playing in an event he played six times between 2004 and 2012, as well as last year.

Having played just six times so far in 2019, Woods reiterated that the truncated PGA Tour schedule would also coincide with a lean schedule for him as he continues to attempt to pick off more major championships.
“I played a little bit too much last year because I kept trying to qualify for World Golf Championships and events in the playoffs,” Woods said following his Masters victory. “I’m going to play a little bit less than I did last year. Again, in the tournaments I do play in, I’ll be fully invested and committed to playing and trying to win.”
The only other event between now and the PGA is the AT&T Byron Nelson at Colonial Country Club, a tournament he hasn’t played in since 2005.
In an interview with GOLFTV released earlier this week, Woods said he was enjoying his latest major triumph and hadn’t yet began ramping up for any other events. However, with just two weeks before the second major of the year, it appears that hiatus is now over as his content partners shared a series of videos of Woods working on his game at his home club, Medalist, on Friday.
