Tiger Woods’ major championship prep for the PGA Championship ended a day earlier than expected when Woods didn’t come to Bethpage Black on Wednesday.
Opting to choose rest over another day on the course, Woods’ agent Mark Steinberg assured those questioning the decision that it was simply a preservation decision and nothing more.
“He’s all good, just getting some rest,” Steinberg told ESPN.com’s Bob Harig. “Saw the course last week, all is good.”
Woods played 18 holes at Bethpage last week and has past success on the course having won the U.S. Open on the layout in 2002. He played nine holes on Monday in less-than-ideal conditions and was on property on Tuesday, but only hit the range and practice area.

“There’s definitely going to be a component to stamina this week as the week goes on,” Woods said in his pre-tournament press conference. “Four days over a tough championship that is mentally and physically taxing takes its toll.”
Woods was set to begin his run at major No. 16 on Thursday at 8:24 a.m. alongside Brooks Koepka and Francesco Molinari.
