Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning have authored their own fair share of history together in their respective careers, but on Wednesday in Dublin, Ohio, they almost witnessed one of the rarest feats in golf side-by-side.
Playing alongside Manning at the Memorial Tournament Pro-am on Wednesday, Woods almost jarred an ace on the par-3 fourth hole at Muirfield Village, which would have been his second hole-in-one in the last few months.
While that may not sound terribly impressive on its face, consider that Woods ended a 20-year hole-in-one drought in the build-up to his made-for-TV match against Phil Mickelson in November of 2018.
“Some of the best years of my career and I never made (a hole-in-one),” Woods told Golfweek.com at the Hero World Challenge. “For some reason, it took (20) years. Never made one this century, and lo and behold, I make my 20th.”
On Wednesday, he nearly made his 21st.
