Tiger Holes Out From Sand En Route To 70

The flashes of the Tiger of yesteryear have been more abundant than most expected this week at the Hero World Challenge. From Woods piping drives to sticking wedges to kick-in range, we have seen a wide array of shots from Tiger.

All the while, Woods’ Achilles heel, his chipping, has been solid, especially compared to some of the shots we’ve seen the rest of the field hit. The culmination of that solid short game came at the par-3 fifth. After a loose swing off the tee left Woods a tricky long bunker shot. The hole-out moved Tiger to 4-under par through 5 holes on his round

The hole-out moved Tiger to 4-under par through 5 holes on his round, but more trouble on the way in derailed what could have been his second straight round in the 60s. Back-to-back bogeys at the 13th and 14th holes, and a closing double bogey — for the second time in three days — took the wind out of an otherwise good round of golf.

Even if Tiger kept it together down the stretch, he would have a tough task ahead of him on Sunday with the way Hideki Matsuyama has been playing. The 24-year-old Japanese superstar tried to run away from the field on Saturday, firing his second 65 of the week to hold a seven shot advantage over Henrik Stenson and Dustin Johnson.

Here is the complete leaderboard from the Hero.
