Tiger Blows Up On Island Green 17th Hole

Tiger Woods was humming right along on Friday at The Players Championship, 3-under par for his round and 5-under par overall, until he came to the famous island green 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass.

Firmly inserting himself into contention, Woods proceeded to dunk his tee shot into the water, and then do the same thing with his third shot, leading to a quadruple bogey 7 on the short par-3.

“Well, I was pretty ticked, no doubt about that, and I was bound and determined to get it all back and get it back to five (under par), and I thought that would have been a hell of a fight,” Woods said after the round. “(I) ended up getting back to three (under), still was a good fight to get to that point. But as of right now I’m six back, which is definitely doable on this golf course, especially with the weather coming in.”

As he mentioned, Woods was able to overcome the quadruple bogey to play the rest of his round in 5-under par, which left him at 3-under par for the tournament, nine shots back of the 36-hole co-leaders, Tommy Fleetwood and Rory McIlroy.

“I just need to go out there and put it together this weekend, because right now literally anybody who makes the cut has got a chance to win this tournament,” he said.
