Jordan Spieth is showing glimpses of rounding back into form this week at The Northern Trust making nine birdies over his first two rounds. However, four bogeys and one triple bogey have relegated him to an early-morning tee time on Saturday following a 1-under par 70 for the second consecutive day.
The story of Spieth’s day was told on the green as the three-time major champion continued his head-scratching inconsistency. Despite birdies on three of his first five holes, which included everything from a tap-in to a 30-foot bomb, Spieth gave back all three strokes he had picked up to par on the difficult par-4 18th hole.
A wayward drive left Spieth with a 20-footer for bogey, which he missed. Obviously upset, Spieth nonchalantly approached his 6-inch tap-in for double bogey one-handed and promptly stubbed the putter and advanced the ball only an inch or two.

Spieth settled for a triple-bogey 7 to make the turn in even par for the day and 1-under par for the tournament. Spieth made two birdies against one bogey on his second nine to post a 1-under par round, taking him to 2-under par for the tournament, eight shots back of 36-hole co-leaders Brooks Koepka and Jamie Lovemark.
