McCarron Takes Drop, Hits Ball, Smashes Club

Life comes at you fast, and when you’re like Scott McCarron trying to chase down Bernhard Langer on Friday at the PGA Tour Champions’ at the Dominion Energy Charity Classic, frustrations can come to a head.

McCarron was taking a routine drop with a rules official monitoring when he went to pick up his tees that he used to mar his position. The driver he used to get the most relief possible slipped out of his hand, fell and nudged his ball an inch or two. Immediately, Lanny Wadkins called out the penalty.

McCarron was hip to it as well and after calling the rules official back in, likely out of sheer disbelief, he took his frustrations out on his TaylorMade driver and The Country Club of Virginia turf.

To his credit, McCarron had a good sense of humor about the whole thing.

McCarron, who is second in the Schwab Cup standings, would go on to shoot an up-and-down even par 72. He enters Sunday’s final round 10 shots back of Langer.
