Rory Screams Back At Heckler

The Ryder Cup brings out a passion in players that is rarely seen on a week-to-week basis on the PGA Tour. While Rory McIlroy isn’t known as the poster boy for bulging eyes in the way that Ian Poulter is, the Northern Irishman isn’t short on energy when it comes to the biennial event.

Struggling with his putting this season, an apparent heckler in France decided to let McIlroy know that he’s had some difficulties on the green during Saturday morning’s foursomes matches. On the par-5 third hole, McIlroy had enough.

After holing a lengthy birdie putt, McIlroy turned on a dime and yelled to the heckler, “Oh, I can’t putt? I can putt. I can putt. Come on!”

Ironically, on the next tee, McIlroy bombed his tee shot — arguably the best part of his game — out of bounds. He and teammate Ian Poulter would go on to make triple-bogey 7 and not win a hole the rest of the match.

The United States team of Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth would eventually come back from a 2-down deficit to win 4&3.
