Pro’s Practice Session Goes Horribly Wrong

We’ve all been there on the range. You’re striping it and can’t miss the center of the clubface when you feel someone’s eyes on your back. All the good mojo you had built up is out the window, and instead of concentrating on what you’re doing, you’re mind starts racing wondering what they think of your swing. Of course, what happens next is the chunk, or the blade, or the shank.

It’s good to know that us regular hackers aren’t alone in having those range breakdowns. Spanish golfer Alvaro Quiros, a six-time winner on the PGA and European Tours, was working on getting his downswing on plane with his fairway wood following a roung at this past week’s Portugal Masters. Quiros got a little low on the way down, took out his training aid and snapped his fairway wood into two pieces in the process.

Luckily for Alvaro, he’s got the guys in the Callaway truck at his beck and call, and they were able to work him up a shaft to his exact specifications in the time it takes to make an Instagram video.

Something must have clicked with that new fairway wood shaft because Quiros went out and fired a final-round 65 to finish in a tie for 31st place.
