Mickelson Whiffs On Shot

Golf can be a humbling game for even one the greatest players to ever pick up a club.

Phil Mickelson entered the Masters with high hopes, but those faded quickly after two rounds. The three-time winner of the green jacket barely made the cut and came into Saturday out of contention, 14 shots off the pace.

He began Saturday hoping to play better golf. That failed to materialize on the first hole. Mickelson found himself in trouble from the start and took a swing and missed on No. 1. Mickelson ducked after the swing, expecting it to hit the tree and have it ricochet.

Instead, all that we saw was an embarrassing whiff from one of the greatest golfers of all time.  All duffers out there can now rejoice.

Mickelson triple-bogeyed the first hole and followed that up with a bogey on the second. Lefty righted the ship after and had an eagle at No. 8 and a birdie at No. 9 to stabilize his round. Mickelson finished well before the cameras came on for CBS, finishing with a 2-over 74.

He sits at 7-over par and is tied for 50th place heading into the final day. Mickelson came into the Masters playing some of the best golf of his career, but he has struggled at Augusta National this week.
