Mickelson Aces Nantz’s Backyard Pebble Replica

With the U.S. Open heading back to Pebble Beach next week, Phil Mickelson is already in town on the Monterey Peninsula prepping for the only leg of the career grand slam that has eluded him so far.

In fact, when you’re near Pebble Beach, you’re near the home of longtime CBS play-by-play man Jim Nantz, who has a replica of the famous par-3 7th from the nearby links in his backyard.

Nantz Narrates Own Shot on Backyard Par-3

Over the years, we’ve seen the likes of Nick Faldo and members of the Dan Patrick Show take on the shortened hole in Nantz’s backyard, but on Wednesday, Mickelson, along with his brother and caddie, Tim, stopped by the Nantz estate to enjoy some wine and hit a few shots on the backyard hole.

Naturally, Phil hit a little knockdown cut into the green that fed perfectly into the hole for an ace.

Mickelson celebrated in kind.

“Ohhhh! That’s how it’s done mother*******! Woo!” Mickelson said holding out his arms, while also having the audio edited to avoid his explicit celebration from reaching the masses.

Nantz, always commentating, said, “What a way to prep for the United States Open!”

“That’s right!” Mickelson said, offering a club drop and kiss to the imaginary fans.

Faldo Aces Jim Nantz’s Backyard 7th Hole Replica

Mickelson now joins an elite number of folks to have aced the Nantz par-3. Of course, there’s a rock near the tee in Nantz backyard that recognizes each of the folks who have made a hole-in-one. The list includes Brandt Snedeker, Tony Romo, David Feherty, and Nick Faldo, who aced the hole during last year’s AT&T Pro-Am.

Mickelson will become the eighth name on the rock once the plaques are properly updated.
