Golf is a fickle game. Just over a month ago, Rory McIlroy left Baltusrol Golf Club after missing the cut at the PGA Championship saying he needed to go back to the drawing board thanks to two days of terrible putting. On Sunday, a new putter and putting coach led to McIlroy hoisting the Deutsche Bank Championship trophy, coming from six shots back on Sunday to defeat Paul Casey.

McIlroy enlisted the help of putting guru Phil Kenyon in August with the hopes of having his putting straightened out by the time the Masters rolled around next April. The first-blush work with Kenyon seemed to take hold as McIlroy had the fewest putts in the field, led the tournament in putts per green in regulation and picked up 5.3 shots on the green over field on the week.

Paul Casey, the 54-hole leader, struggled to a final-round 2-over par 73 to finish in solo second place. Jimmy Walker finished in third place and Adam Scott finished fourth.
McIlroy moved from 34th in the FedEx Cup standings to 4th and will look to duplicate his back-to-back victories at the Deutsche Bank and BMW Championship from 2013 this week at Crooked Stick outside of Indianapolis.
