LPGA Tour Pro Falls Into Bunker Reading A Putt

When you hear the phrase “golfer’s worst nightmare,” more than one thing springs to mind — such is the game we love. However, for LPGA Tour pro Bronte Law, her version of the bad dream took place this week at the ISPS HANDA Australian Open.

Playing her third round at The Grange Golf Club, Law was looking over a putt when her routine took her behind the ball on the eighth hole.

“So today I experienced any golfers worst nightmare… I fell back into a bunker while reading a putt. True embarrassment at its finest,” she tweeted.

The 23-year-old Brit got ahead of the story as video of the incident itself is yet to surface, but the UCLA product talked glibly about it with the LPGA Tour during their Player Mic segment.

“I was just minding my own business, going through my pre-shot routine, lining up my putt and stepped back,” she said. “And as I stepped back with my left foot, it seemed to be sliding away from me very quickly and I’m starting to feel like I’m falling into a bunker, so that happened.

“It gave my partner a little bit of entertainment there, but it was unfortunate. I managed to at least make the putt. I know everyone was concerned whether I made the putt or not. I somehow held it together between crying laughing.

“My caddie really enjoyed that one, I don’t think I’m ever going to live that one down.”

Despite the fall, Law was able to shoot a 2-under par 70 to put herself into the top-10 entering Sunday’s final round, but an even-par 72 on the final day saw Law slip down the leaderboard into a tie for 15th at 7-under par, 10 shots back of eventual champion Nelly Korda.
