Little John Daly Bombs Drive, Impresses Big John Daly

As the end of the calendar nears, some of the most entertaining, albeit unofficial events of the golf season take place.

Last week, we saw Tour pros pair up on two-man teams to play a scramble, best ball and alternate shot format at the QBE Shootout, and this week, the PNC Father/Son Challenge will headline the golfing weekend in the United States.

While there will be legends of the game and their offspring in the field, such as Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, Greg Norman, Lee Trevino and Bernhard Langer, all eyes will be on the team of John Daly and his son, Little John Daly.

While many of the champion golfers in the field had their kids follow in their footsteps to some extent, Little John is one of the brightest stars in the field, and not only because he is the spitting image of his father.

Little John has studied under SwingU’s Head of Instruction, Gary Gilchrist, at Gilchrist’s academy outside of Orlando for the past few years and the hard work he’s put in was on display during the Friday pro-am at the PNC. Playing at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, cameras caught Little John doing what Big John is known for — smashing a driver.

Proud papa.

After Little John crushed one, Big John stepped in and said, “Thank God I got him on my team this week… especially where your tees are.”

That sounded like a proud and confident father. And he should be. Look at these two swings side by side.

The format is a 36-hole two-man scramble. Play begins on Saturday at 9 a.m. The Dalys are paired up with Retief and Leo Goosen.
