For the third time since 2016, Lydia Ko is without a swing coach.
Ko told GolfChannel.com on Tuesday that her and Ted Oh, with whom she’d been working with since the beginning of 2018, had mutually split ways.
“We just mutually decided it was time,” Ko said. “We ended on good terms.
“I have a lot to thank Ted for. He gave me a really solid blueprint, simplifying my swing. I think he showed me a more efficient way, and I thank him for that.”
“Everyone was a little stressed out there,” Oh said of the split. “It was time. I still love the girl, and we still talk.”
Under Oh’s watchful eye, Ko snapped a two-year winless drought at the Mediheal Championship at Lake Merced last year, site of this week’s LPGA Tour event. Ko hit a memorable 3-wood to two feet in a playoff to tap in for an eagle and the win.
Ko had a strong finish to the end of the 2018 season, but that hasn’t translated into any more victories. She hasn’t finished better than eighth in 2019, and decided it was time to go it alone for a while.
“I’ve had a couple coaches look at my swing, to get an opinion, but I’m not in a rush to make a decision,” she said.
Ko began working with Oh after a year spent working with Gary Gilchrist in 2017. Prior to that, Ko worked with David Leadbetter for three years dating back to 2013.
