Luiten Makes Albatross, Nearly Aces the Next Hole

Much like the FedEx Cup Playoffs on the PGA Tour, the Race to Dubai on the European Tour is keeping the best players on the circuit deep into the fall. Playing in this week’s Andalucia Valderrama Masters, Joost Luiten nearly broke statisticians’ minds with a two-hole stretch on the back nine of his second round.

Turning in even par, Luiten bogeyed the par-4 10th before playing his next two holes in 4-under par. Yes, you read that correctly.

Luiten hit a good drive on the par-5 11th hole at Valderrama, leaving him with a long iron into the green. A flushed second landed on the green and rolled like a putt into the right-center of the hole for an albatross.

According to GolfChannel.com, the odds of making an albatross are 6-million-to-one, which is crazy enough, but wait until what you see what Luiten did on the very next hole.

Luiten’s 2-2 stretch jumped him from 1-over on his round and 4-under for the tournament to 8-under overall. Despite making two bogeys on the final six holes, Luiten still holds on to a share of the 54-hole lead alongside Sergio Garcia heading into Saturday’s third round.
