There’s winning in style, and then there’s what Jon Rahm did at the Farmers Insurance Open on Sunday at Torrey Pines.
The 22-year-old Spaniard turned at 7-under par and three shots back of an ever-changing leaderboard before lighting the back nine of Torrey’s South Course ablaze with two birdies and two eagles to shoot an incoming 30, and post 13-under par four groups ahead of the final group.

Rahm flew up the leaderboard past 54-hole co-leaders Brandt Snedeker and Patrick Rodgers, as well as 10 other players en route to his first PGA Tour victory. Rahm’s final round 7-under par 65 was the best of the day and matched Justin Rose’s opening round score for the lowest of the week (Rose shot his 65 on the North Course).
The win was not a surprise to those who know Rahm’s pedigree. While playing at Arizona State, Rahm was the top-ranked amateur in the world, the low am at the 2016 U.S. Open and a two-time recipient of the Ben Hogan Award, which is given to the nation’s top college player. Rahm turned pro the week after his T23 finish at Oakmont and finished in a tie for third.
This season, Rahm has made all five cuts of tournaments he’s played in and he’s finished in the top-25 three times. With the win, he moved all the way up to 46th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
