Kim’s 12th Hole Ace Spurs Back-Nine Run

There’s a lot on the line at this week’s LPGA Tour season-ending CME Group Tour Championship. The Rolex world No. 1 ranking, the Rolex Player of the Year Award, the Vare Trophy for low scoring average, the CME Globe’s $1 million jackpot and the money-winning title are all up for grabs at Tiburon Golf Club this week.

Entering Sunday’s final round, there are four players tied for the lead and 18 players within two shots. I.K. Kim tossed her hat into the ring thanks to an ace on the par-3 12th hole. A rough front nine 40 put Kim deep in the pack, but the ace ignited a back-nine run that saw her post three consecutive birdies en route to a five-under par 31.

All in all, Kim shot a 1-under par 71 that was much more exciting than the number itself makes it out to be.

Michelle Wie, Suzann Pettersen, Ariya Jutangarn and Kim Kaufman are the four tied for the 54-hole lead. The final-round coverage kicks off today on ABC at 1 p.m. EST.
