Billy Horschel came into the Valero Texas Open as one of the favorites to win the tournament, but by the back nine of his second round, he was trying anything he could think of to get momentum on his side.
Horschel shot 1-over par 73 on Thursday to sit two shots outside of the cut line. Despite an early-round birdie, Horschel was looking to change the mojo by the time he made the turn.
The former FedEx Cup champion bogeyed Nos. 16 and 18 to turn in 1-over par for the day and 2-over for the tournament.

In desperate need of something to turn around, Horschel turned his hat around in hopes of kicking off a birdie rally.

Clearly, the rally cap didn’t work as Horschel failed to convert any birdies on his back nine, instead falling further and further outside of the cutline as he posted 4-over par 40 on the back nine.

Horschel will get the opportunity to head to Augusta National a few days early to prep for the first major championship of the year.
