DJ, Dufner Hole Out at Mexico Championship

It’s good to be Dustin Johnson.

The world No. 1 is searching for the form he flashed last year at Club de Golf Chapultepec outside of Mexico City that led to three victories on the PGA Tour before the first major championship of the year, and if Friday was any indication, he’s closing in on it.

Plodding along in his second round, DJ came to the 9th hole at 1-under par for the day and losing ground on the leaders. After a solid 255-yard drive to the center of the fairway on the 382-yard par-4, DJ sent his approach shot behind the hole and walked nonchalantly towards the green as the ball made its way back down a slope and into the hole.

DJ wasn’t the only hole out of the day, either. About a half hour after Johnson’s eagle, Jason Dufner made one of his own on the par-4 16th hole in a similar fashion.

From the fairway on the 403-yard hole, Dufner threw his ball behind the pin and watched as it made its way back into the cup for an eagle 2.

Dufner’s eagle had slightly less impact on the tournament at large as he only moved to 2-over par for the tournament. DJ’s hole out moved him into the top-10 and a pair of birdies on Johnson’s back nine has him sitting at 7-under par for the event and four shots back of 36-hole leader Shubhankar Sharma heading into the weekend.

Here are the second round’s complete highlights.
