Daly Fires Back After Tiger’s Cart Comment

John Daly received permission from the PGA of America to ride in a cart at this week’s 101st PGA Championship due to arthritis in his right knee, which he says prohibits him from walking more than six holes at a time.

While he’ll be the only player in the field this week utilizing a cart, Daly caught some heat from a fellow major champion who knows a little something about playing through leg pain.

“As far as JD taking a cart, well, I walked with a broken leg, so…” Tiger Woods said on Tuesday as a big grin stretched across his face.

Although the smile portended that Woods was simply taking a shot at the 1991 PGA Champion, Daly didn’t seem too thrilled with Woods’ comments.

Speaking to USA Today, Daly said he wished Woods had “all the facts” before making his comment, noting that his diabetes was also a contributing factor.

“Might have been a different comment,’’ Daly said. “As well as the Golf Channel Wednesday morning, when they bashed me pretty good, and a few

Daly said that he harbors no ill will towards Woods.

“Not at all,” Daly said. “He’s the best player I’ve ever played with or seen.

“He got his fixed. For some reason, no doctor will replace my knee because of a different type of problem. It’s hard to explain why. I’m not a doctor. I just try to do what they say.

“Osteoarthritis is a tough thing, brother. If my knee was broke, I would have had it fixed. But my situation is totally different. It’s painful as hell is all I can say. As was Tiger’s, I’m sure.”

Daly tees off in the first round of the PGA Championship on Thursday at 12:54 p.m. alongside fellow former winners Rich Beem and Y.E. Yang.
