Could Tiger Be The Final U.S. Ryder Cup Captain’s Pick?

Tiger Woods could be the fourth and final United States Ryder Cup captain’s pick. That’s what Matt Kuchar is hearing, at least.

The 17th-ranked golfer in the world spoke yesterday via Skype to assembled media at Hazeltine National Golf Club just weeks before the biennial matches between the U.S. and Europe tee off.

“I heard even possibly — this is hearsay — but heard maybe even Tiger Woods could potentially be a pick. That would be legend… dary. Legendary.

“That’s just hearsay, it could strictly be rumor. But I know he’s playing Safeway. Imagine Tiger Woods being a playing [vice] captain. Absolutely incredible.

“The team just — that last pick is going to be quite amazing. I don’t envy Davis’s position. So, it’s a tough job. But gosh, imagine that, Tiger Woods playing for Team USA, being a [vice] captain, that would be incredible.”

The rumor is definitely out there, as tweeted prior to the picks of Kuchar, Rickie Fowler and J.B. Holmes by the Tour Miss.

The fourth and final U.S. captain’s pick will be made Sept. 25 following the completion of the Tour Championship. Despite the rumors that Kuchar lent some credence to, choosing a guy who hasn’t played competitively in 13 months would be tough to rationalize, albeit extremely interesting.
