Bubba Skips Shot Across No. 16 Water With Driver

The first few days of Masters week are chalk-full of “traditions unlike any other,” but unless you’re on the grounds to witness them, you may not know they exist. One of the more fun and enjoyable traditions that take place during the practice rounds is the skipping of balls across the lake on the par-3 16th.

Players typically play their normal shots from the tee box area before heading towards the green. Inevitably, calls from the patrons seated in the tee-side grandstand will come.

“SKIP! SKIP! SKIP!”

Not one to let down the fans, most players head to the front of the teeing area onto a slight downslope that leads into the man-made lake that guards the left side of the hole. From there, players hit low shots that skip across the lake, and hopefully, end up somewhere on the putting surface. This year was no exception as nearly everyone who came through teed off and then obliged the fans.

Bubba Watson, ever the contrarian, didn’t play the fun shot with a normal club choice; he pulled out his famous pink driver.

Of course, Watson pulled off the shot, getting a few skips across the water and finding dry land. While his wasn’t the closest shot of the day, it was the most impressive. Below are a few other tries from players on Tuesday at Augusta.
