Koepka’s Father Lashes Out At Chamblee On Social Media

As it turns out, feuding with Brandel Chamblee on social media is a family tradition for the Koepkas.

While Brooks is enjoying a few vacations and five weeks off, his father, Bob, carried the Koepka torch on social media on Saturday night.

A rocky relationship between the Golf Channel analyst and the top-ranked player in the world has included jabs on social media and in interviews over the course of the last 12 months, but until this point, it’s only been Brooks who has responded publicly.

Responding to a relatively innocuous tweet about Chamblee playing golf with his wife, Bob Koepka took the opportunity to question Chamblee’s toughness.

“I had 245 to the 18th today, over a creek,” Chamblee tweeted. “My wife says, “Well, are you a man or a mouse?” Needless to say, I went for it. A few holes later I see her reading my 20-foot putt, so I asked, ‘what’s it going to do?’ She deadpans, ‘It’s going to go in.’ Whereupon I made it.”

Questioning Chamblee’s hesitation in going for the green, Bob Koepka responded, “And you question Brooks’ toughness?”

The debate then devolved in an argument over semantics and non-Tour member invites.

“Never questioned his toughness,” Chamblee rebuttaled. The question posed to me was is he the mentally toughest player on Tour. I said I needed more evidence. If you want to be accurate.”

Bob Koepka’s next gripe centered around his less-famous second son, Chase, who has been chasing his dream on the European Challenge Tour, the minor leagues that developed Brooks into a world-beater. He name-dropped Dru Love, Davis Love III’s son, who has made 18 starts on the PGA Tour with only three made cuts to show for it.

Bob Koepka’s point that Chamblee spoke out against Brooks choosing his brother as a partner for the Zurich Classic team event, which Chamblee confirmed his opinion that if the Koepka brothers were to win, he didn’t believe it was right that Chase could theoretically earn a two-year exemption on Tour via a win simply because he was Brooks’ brother.

It may be the “offseason” on the PGA Tour, but the chip on the collective Koepkas’ shoulder never takes a day off.
