Best Tiger Vs. Phil Hype Video Yet

We’re less than two weeks away from the most anticipated golf event of the fall, and we’re not talking about your course’s Thanksgiving Day Turkey Shootout. Dubbed “The Match,” the Tiger Woods vs. Phil Mickelson $9 million exhibition is fast approaching and we finally have a hype video that lives up to the billing.

What makes The Match compelling is the history between the two, not necessarily the present chummy nature of their relationship. One of the biggest criticisms — among the many — is that this match is coming 10 or 15 years too late. While that realistically would have never happened, it doesn’t stop folks from pining for it.

And finally, earlier this week, the marketers of The Match tapped into that desire with a video that encapsulates so much of the history that has built up to the Nov. 23 head-t0-head.

The video trailer was released along with some other information about The Match, including the use of some new-age technology that we could see become more prevalent on our normal golf broadcasts.

“The broadcast will include real-time, hole-by-hole statistics that will be displayed on screen to forecast the probability of certain outcomes during the match,” Turner Sports’ latest release said. “The data is based on a model and algorithm that combines ShotLink Intelligence with characteristics of Shadow Creek to calculate the likelihood of various scenarios to occur. Separately, after a hole has concluded, the broadcast will integrate a proprietary data stream provided by the MGM Resorts Race & Sports Books – in association with the MGM/GVC Interactive Gaming Joint Venture – to deliver odds, moneyline and other information associated with the golfers’ performance.”

So, viewers have that going for them, which is nice.
