Ace And Albatross Made During PGA Tour Opening Round

The Safeway Open began with a roar on Thursday when PGA Tour rookie Jon Rahm aced his second hole of the tournament, the 176-yard par-3 11th. Of course, there’s no video of the shot, but Rahm was sure to make sure everyone knew he had hit his first ace ever by buying the media center a whole bunch of wine.

Rahm’s ace was the best shot of the day… for a couple of hours. Morgan Hoffmann one-upped the 21-year-old Spaniard’s hole-in-one/eagle with an even bigger bird: an albatross.

Hoffmann would fire an opening-round 2-under par 70. The one-upsmanship continued, however, with first-round leader Scott Piercy shooting a course-record setting 10-under par 62 to hold a two-shot lead over Paul Casey and Patton Kizzire.

Here are the day’s full highlights.
