In the final of the 2013 Re/Max World Long Drive Championship, Tim Burke crushed his ball 427 yards. It was the longest drive to win the title in the history of the event.
It doesn’t take an expert to know that that’s a big number. But it does take an expert to come up with some other pretty big numbers associated with a 427-yard drive. So John Brenkus and his Sport Science team ran some calculations.
For example, Burke’s clubhead speed was around 156 mph, while the fastest clubhead speed recorded on the PGA Tour last season was 129.62 mph by Andrew Loupe. And Burke’s ball speed was 227 mph, the fastest TrackMan-verified ball speed ever.
