Tiger Woods struggled with a back injury to a second-place finish at The Barclays last weekend, one shot behind the eventual winner, Adam Scott. Woods will try to play through the injury this week at the Deutsche Bank Championship, the second tournament of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup playoffs, and has again been installed as the favorite, opening at odds of 7-to-1 at the LVH SuperBook.
The back issue was enough for Jeff Sherman, assistant manager at the SuperBook, to make a slight adjustment on Tiger but not enough to strip him of favorite status
“The 7-to-1 (price) is an upward adjustment from the 5-to-1 that was offered last week, when he still finished second,” Sherman told The Linemakers on Sporting News.
Bettors won’t have the opportunity to take a shot against Woods in a matchup prop, however, as the world’s No. 1 player is not offered among those wagers.
“The chance of (Woods’ back) acting up during the tournament is why there is no option to bet against him,” Sherman added. “When someone has a semblance of an injury, we stay away from offering a matchup if we can.”
Scott, meanwhile, is second on the LVH board at 10-to-1, as he looks unseat Woods at the top of the FedExCup leader board. The Masters winner is in second, 162 points behind Tiger.
Our picks
The Linemakers’ Brian Blessing, who offered Jason Dufner at 40-to-1 to take home the PGA Championship earlier this month, shares his selections.
Top pick – Keegan Bradley. “He’s had a disappointing season, but over the last month his form is improving with three straight tournaments under par, including a second-place finish at the WGC Bridgestone,” Blessing said. “The New Englander will be playing in his own backyard and in front of plenty of family and friends, and presents nice value at 30-1.”
Longshot – Jonas Blixt. “As long as he wears Swedish colors and not Ricky Fowler’s orange, he’s worth a few bucks at the juicy price of 80-1,” quipped Blessing.
