While the golf season’s fourth and final major – the PGA Championship – is set to tee off next week, this week’s stop on the PGA Tour is a World Golf Championship event, which always attract marquee fields of their own. The WGC-Bridgestone Invitational is no exception, as Tiger Woods and British Open champ Phil Mickelson headline a star-studded group.
Tiger, whose odds to win the PGA Championship have lengthened slightly over the past week, is back in his typical role as the clear favorite this weekend at Firestone Country Club. The LVH SuperBook has opened him at 4-to-1 odds, followed by Mickelson at 12-to-1.
Tiger’s short odds are justified considering his history in this tournament, which includes seven wins since 1999. Mickelson does not have a win at the event over that span, but he is No. 4 in the FedExCup standings and has two wins on the season.
