‘Tis the season to be generous and Rory McIlroy has been doing his best Bubbaclaus impression lately. The World No. 3 was in the giving mood last month when he gifted a Nike Covert driver to a Facebook fan and The Herald reported McIlroy gave away another big stick to actor Mark Wahlberg this past weekend.
Wahlberg was on the Emerald Isle promoting his latest movie, Daddy’s Home, when he found some time to sneak away to Portmarnock Golf Club just outside of Dublin. While in Ireland, McIlroy reportedly met up with Wahlberg for lunch as well.
“I played golf at Portmarnock. It was beautiful,” Wahlberg said. “I’d love to come back here on vacation with my family. I had a bite to eat with Rory on Sunday and I was like, ‘Dude, I need to come back, play golf and just hang out and see the sights.’
“I will at some point, it’s just hard with work and the kids are in school. (McIlroy) gave me a new driver, which was great, I just can’t wait to get to a golf course or a driving range and try it out.”
It wouldn’t be surprising if McIlroy just handed Wahlberg one of the Enjoy the Chase kits he’s been giving away lately.
As for Wahlberg, lunch with McIlroy is the second time in the past few weeks that he’s been rubbing shoulders with the best golfers in the world. Two weeks ago the aforementioned Bubbaclaus posted a picture with the Entourage executive producer.
It might have made more sense for Watson to hand over a driver to Wahlberg given that they’re both left handed, but we doubt Wahlberg is complaining.
