Rory McIlroy could use a break. Just this summer the world No. 1 won the BMW PGA Championship, the Open Championship, the PGA Championship, a World Golf Championship, and last week, the Ryder Cup with Team Europe. That’s a tough stretch to beat.
And on top of all that, he broke up with tennis star Caroline Wozniacki and has had to fend off questions and rumors surrounding just about any female he gets within five feet of. “Golf is my girlfriend,” he told BBC last week.
Well, their relationship has never been better and they have no plans to take a break this week. Less than 48 hours after popping champagne bottles (early) and donning a wig and skirt sans shirt, McIlroy is back doing work. He’s already on site for the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, Europe’s version of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
McIlroy took a stroll around St. Andrews, the home of golf …

… and played a practice round at Carnoustie on Tuesday:
The tournament takes place on three courses: The Old Course at St. Andrews, Carnoustie Golf Links and Kingsbarns Golf Links. While McIlroy was getting acquainted with Carnoustie, the venerable Bill Murray was doing the same with The Old Course:
McIlroy is one of four members of the victorious European Ryder Cup squad who will be on hand (along with Victor Dubuisson, Stephen Gallacher and Martin Kaymer), and Murray is one of four Golden Globe winners who will be participating (along with Hugh Grant, Damian Lewis and Kyle MacLachlan). Might McIlroy and Murray be paired together?
Maybe if Gerry McIlroy didn’t want some father-son time with his boy. Rory will be teaming with Pops and vying for the team championship:
