Odds Say Tiger Woods’ Major Drought Likely to Continue

After another major-less season, odds are against Tiger Woods adding to his total of 14 major championships next year, according to new props offered at William Hill U.K.

In a prop asking how many majors Tiger will win in 2014, ‘None’ is the 8-to-15 favorite, Graham Sharpe, William Hill’s media relations director, reported on Twitter.

Woods has won five of the eight non-major tournaments he’s entered this season. He’s the No. 1 player by a mile in the World Golf Ranking and has a 766-point lead over second-place Matt Kuchar in the FedEx Cup standings.

When it comes to the big ones, though, he hasn’t gotten the job done since the 2008 U.S. Open. He was in contention at the Masters and British Open (finishing tied for fourth and tied for sixth, respectively), but was well back in the U.S. Open (tied for 32nd) and this past weekend’s PGA Championship, where he finished tied for 40th.

“Is it concerning?” Woods said when asked his major drought. “No. I’ve been there in half of them. So that’s about right. If you are going to be in there three-quarters or half of them with a chance to win on the back nine, you have just got to get it done.

“I was right there and certainly had a chance to win the Masters and the British this year. The other two, I just didn’t hit it good enough. Just the way it goes.”

Rory McIlroy, meanwhile, has had an even less-inspiring season than Tiger. He’s 1-to-5 at William Hill to win no majors next season.
