Mickelson On Oakmont: Hardest Course We Play

Oakmont Country Club, the sit of next week’s U.S. Open, is already beating up the best players in the world and it’s not in tournament condition yet. With many of the top contenders making scouting trips earlier this week, the reviews are in: Oakmont is still really hard.

The latest to talk up the difficulty of the Western Pennsylvania course was six-time U.S. Open runner-up Phil Mickelson who spent Monday and Tuesday of this week on the grounds.

Oakmont is a mainstay on the lists of toughest golf courses in the world, so it’s no surprise that Phil labeled it as the toughest the PGA Tour plays.

According to the National Course Rating and Slope Database, Oakmont’s rating from the championship tees is 77.8 with a slope of 148, meaning the best player you know probably can’t break 80 there.
