Video: Michael Jordan’s Presidents Cup Memories

Emmy Award-winning broadcaster and college football Hall of Famer, Ahmad Rashad, sat down with Michael Jordan to discuss his Presidents Cup memories.

During his interview with Ahmad, Jordan reflected on his experience as the 2009 honorary captain of the U.S. Presidents Cup team. On giving advice to the players, Jordan said, “By me knowing the sport, and some of the idiosyncrasies of the game, I could tone back my advice and put it in a form, into something they could understand, and then I could relate it back to what they were actually trying to do.”

He continued on saying, “One of the best things I was able to do [as honorary captain of the Presidents Cup team] is articulate what [the players] were saying. Utilizing my experience with my professional sports and my professional career, to give them some feedback they can relate to.”

He also commented that as a professional athlete, nothing bothers him more than when “people come up and tell me about my job, who can’t experience my job.”

Jordan is arguably the best basketball player of all time. He won six championships, scored 32,292 career points, and averaged 30.1 points per game with a postseason average of 33.4 points per game. Jordan has had much success off the court as well, and makes it a point to give back to the community, donating his time and money to various charities. He started the Michael Jordan Charity Invitational in 2001 and that event alone has raised more than $7 million for various organizations, including Make-A-Wish Foundation and the James R. Jordan Foundation.

As a CEO, entrepreneur, MVP NBA player, former minor league baseball player, actor, and philanthropist, it’s hard to find something Jordan hasn’t yet mastered in his career. According to Jordan, however, he still is working on his golf game.
