The home portion of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ schedule came to a close on Sunday, and with that meant the last closest-to-the-pin contest between the team’s mascot, Jaxson DeVille, and a PGA Tour pro. The cat’s final foe: Russell Knox.
The smack-talking began last week – but not by either of the competitors. Knox’s sister, Diane, actually got things started.

Sunday’s defeat dropped Jaxson to 2-5 on the year. His wins came against Mark McCumber and Jim Furyk, with his losses coming at the clubs of David Lingmerth, Billy Horschel, Matt Kuchar, Bud Cauley and Knox. (The Jaguars only played seven times in Jacksonville because one game was in London.)
At each Jags home game this season, the mascot and a golfer hit a 125-yard shot from the Sky Patio in EverBank Field’s south endzone to an island green at midfield (a nod to the famous 17th hole at nearby TPC Sawgrass). When the pro won, the Jaguars Foundation donated $10,000 to a charity of that player’s choice. When Jaxson landed his shot closer than the pro’s, the Jaguars Foundation gave $1,000 to the player’s charity and every fan at the game got a complimentary order of Papa John’s cheesesticks. And if either one sank a hole-in-one, a fan selected prior to the game would have received $1 million from the Jags.
That 2-5 mark means the Jaguars Foundation donated $52,000 to charity because of this contest. And it means that Jaxson won twice as much during his halftime stunts than the Jaguars did all year on the same field (they went 1-6 at home, and are 3-4 on the road).
