Dustin Johnson Eyes February Return At Torrey Pines

It’s been several months since we’ve seen Dustin Johnson playing competitive golf, but that could soon change. He’s been prepping for a comeback in the weight room and on the course, showing that his game is still on point when he broke Tiger Woods’ course record at Sherwood Country Club.

With that in mind, Johnson’s official return shouldn’t be too far away. Tim Rosaforte is reporting that Johnson could be eyeing the Farmers Insurance Open in early-February as his first tournament back.

“He has some thoughts but nothing definitive,” Johnson’s manager, David Winkle said. “It’s all baby dependent. He’s no different than anybody else with a child on the way.”

Of course, his fiancée Paulina Gretzky is pregnant with the couple’s first child, so the delivery date of the baby could affect his return. It’s been reported he won’t return before the baby arrives

The update on his schedule does comes at a good time, however. It’s been seemingly hard to get a hold of Johnson lately. So much so, that not even his biggest sponsor TaylorMade has heard from him.

“We’re looking forward to having a conversation with him and his team when the time is right,” TaylorMade CEO Ben Sharpe said according to Bloomberg’s Erik Matuszewski. “Dustin is a great player and I think it’s important to hear from him about the process he’s going through, to hear about his plans and to have a conversation when that time is right.”

As far as what he’s been up to of late, it includes a lot of exercise such as 30-mile bike rides and two-a-days. Needless to say, his trainer Joey Diovisalvi sounds extremely pleased.

“I’ve never seen the guy more dialed in,” Diovisalvi told Rosaforte. “From a performance standpoint, it’s as good as I’ve ever seen, maybe better.”

Time will tell if the Feb. 5-8 return date remains accurate, but any update on his timetable — definitive or not — is good to hear.
