Cheyenne Woods Returns To LPGA Q-School Finals

Cheyenne Woods is back in the final round of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament and she plans to make the second time the charm.

The Back9Network player ambassador carded a 2-under-par 286 in the second stage of Q-school that ended Friday, tying for 12th place overall. She was 2-over after two rounds, but closed by posting back-to-back rounds of 70. Ginger Howard finished first at the Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Fla., with a 9-under score.

It marks Woods’ second straight trip to the third and final stage of Q-school. Her 8-over score failed to make the cut after 72 holes last year, but it was a marked improvement over her first-stage exit from qualifying in 2012.

Tiger Woods’ 24-year-old niece will be one of 85 women battling in the final stage Dec. 3-7 at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla. They’ll be vying for a top-20 finish, which would give them an LPGA Tour status high enough on the priority list that they’d be able to enter most tournaments.

The women who place No. 21-45 in Q-school also achieve LPGA Tour status, but their priority would be lower, so they wouldn’t be able to participate in as many events. Those women would also have top status on the Symetra Tour, the LPGA’s developmental circuit. (More info on the LPGA Tour priority list can be found here.)

Should Woods not make it inside the top 45 at stage three, she would continue with the Symetra Tour, on which she competed in 14 events this year, recording five top-25 results. She also notched five starts on the Ladies European Tour, where she has full-time status, and one of those appearances included her first major tour victory. She claimed the Australian Ladies Masters title in February.

Woods also qualified for three of the five women’s majors in 2014 – the U.S. Open, Women’s British Open, and the Evian Championship – but missed the cut at each one.
