Back9Network honored Lee Elder, the first African American invited to play in the Masters, by naming its main conference room after Lee and Sharon Elder in a commemorative ceremony Tuesday at the company’s headquarters in downtown Hartford. UConn woman’s basketball head coach Geno Auriemma and professional golfer Pádraig Harrington where on hand to the take part in the festivities.
In November 1967, Lee Elder became one of the first African Americans on the PGA Tour. He went on to be a four-time winner on the PGA Tour and an eight-time winner on the Champions Tour.
